Abstract |
The absorption of light gives a pigment its colour and its reason for being, but it also creates excited states, that is, new molecules with an energy excess that can be dissipated through degradation pathways. Photodegradation processes provoke long-term, cumulative and irreversible colour changes (fading, darkening, blanching) of which the prediction and prevention are challenging tasks. Of all the environmental risks that affect heritage materials, light exposure is the only one that cannot be controlled without any impact on the optimal display of the exhibit. Light-induced alterations are not only associated with the pigment itself but also with its interactions with support/binder and, in turn, are further complicated by the nature of the environmental conditions. In this Minireview we investigate how chemistry, encompassing multi-scale analytical investigations of works of art, computational modelling and physical and chemical studies contributes to improve our prediction of artwork appearance before degradation and to establish effective preventive conservation strategies. |

Abstract |
Potentiometric sensors were used to study molecular interactions in liquid environments, with sensorgram methodology. This is demonstrated with a lipophilic rubber-, and with a collagen based hydrogel sensor coating. The investigated molecules were promazine and tartaric acid respectively. The sensors were placed in a hydrodynamic wall jet system for the recording of sensorgrams. mV sensor responses were first converted to a signal, expressing the concentration of adsorbed organic ions. Using a linearization method, a pseudo first order kinetic model of adsorption was shown to fit the experimental results perfectly. Kass, kon and koff values were calculated.. The technique can be used over 4 decades of concentration, and it is very sensitive to low MW compounds as well as to multiply charged large biomolecules. This study is the first to demonstrate the application of potentiometric sensors as an alternative and complement to SPR methods. |

Abstract |
A novel multi-tube photoreactor is presented with a high efficiency (over 90% conversion) toward the degradation of acetaldehyde in air under UV conditions with an incident intensity of 2.1 mW cm−2. A CFD model was developed to simulate the transient adsorption and photocatalytic degradation processes of acetaldehyde in this reactor design and to estimate the corresponding kinetic parameters through an optimization routine using the experimentally determined outlet concentration profiles. The CFD model takes into account the entire reactor geometry and all relevant flow parameters, in contrast to analytical methods that often oversimplify the physical and chemical process characteristics. Using CFD, we show that both adsorption and desorption rate constants increase by respectively one and two orders of magnitude when the UV light is switched on, which clearly affects the transient behavior. The agreement of the experimental and modelled concentration profiles is excellent as evidenced by a coefficient of determination of at least 0.965. To demonstrate the reliability and accuracy of all parameters obtained from the modelling approach, an ultimate validation test was performed using other conditions than the ones used for estimating the kinetic parameters. The model was able to accurately simulate simultaneous adsorption, desorption and photocatalytic degradation. |

Abstract |
In the commercialisation of photocatalytic air purifiers, the performance as well as the cost of the catalytic material plays an important role. Where most comparative studies only regard the photocatalytic activity as a decisive parameter, in this study both activity and cost are taken into account. Using a cost-effectiveness analysis, six different commercially available TiO2-based catalysts are evaluated in terms of their activities in photocatalytic degradation of acetaldehyde as a model reaction for indoor air purification. |

Abstract |
Multimodal contrast agents, which take advantage of different imaging modalities, have emerged as an interesting approach to overcome the technical limitations of individual techniques. We developed hybrid nanoparticles comprising an iron oxide core and an outer gold spiky layer, stabilized by a biocompatible polymeric shell. The combined magnetic and optical properties of the different components provide the required functionalities for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), and fluorescence imaging. The fabrication of such hybrid nanoprobes comprised the adsorption of small gold nanoparticles onto premade iron oxide cores, followed by controlled growth of spiky gold shells. The gold layer thickness and branching degree (tip sharpness) can be controlled by modifying both the density of Au nanoparticle seeds on the iron oxide cores and the subsequent nanostar growth conditions. We additionally demonstrated the performance of these hybrid multifunctional nanoparticles as multimodal contrast agents for correlative imaging of in vitro cell models and ex vivo tissues. |

Abstract |
High-performing Fe-based electrodes for Li-based batteries are eagerly pursued because of the abundance and environmental benignity of iron, with especially great interest in polyanionic compounds because of their flexibility in tuning the Fe3+/Fe2+ redox potential. We report herein the synthesis and structure of a new Fe-based oxysulfate phase, Fe2O(SO4)(2), made at low temperature from abundant elements, which electrochemically reacts with nearly 1.6 Li atoms at an average voltage of 3.0 V versus Li+/Li, leading to a sustained reversible capacity of similar to 125 mAh/g. The Li insertiondeinsertion process, the first ever reported in any oxysulfate, entails complex phase transformations associated with the position of iron within the FeO6 octahedra. This finding opens a new path worth exploring in the quest for new positive electrode materials. |

Abstract |
The series Sr2MnO2Cu1.5(S1-xSex)(2) (0 <= x <= 1) contains mixed-valent Mn ions (Mn2+/Mn3+) in MnO2 sheets which are separated by copper-deficient antifluorite-type Cu(2-delta)Ch(2) layers with delta similar to 0.5. The compounds crystallize in the structure type first described for Sr2Mn3Sb2O2 and are described in the I4/mmm space group at ambient temperatures. Below about 250 K, ordering between Cu+ ions and tetrahedral vacancies occurs which is long-range and close to complete in the sulfide-containing end member of the series Sr2MnO2Cu1.5S2 but which occurs over shorter length scales as the selenide content increases. The superstructure is an orthorhombic 2 root 2a x root 2a x c expansion in Ibam of the room temperature cell. For x > 0.3 there are no superstructure reflections evident in the X-ray or neutron diffraction patterns, and the I4/mmm description is valid for the average structure at all temperatures. However, in the pure selenide end member, Sr2MnO2Cu1.5Se2, diffuse scattering in electron diffractograms and modulation in high resolution lattice image profiles may arise from short-range Cu/vacancy order. All members of the series exhibit long-range magnetic order. In the sulfide-rich end member and in compounds with x < 0.1 in the formula Sr2MnO2Cu1.5(S1-xSex)(2), which show well developed superstructures due to long-range Cu/vacancy order, the magnetic structure has a (1/4 1/4 0) propagation vector in which ferromagnetic zigzag chains of Mn moments in the MnO2 sheets are coupled antiferromagnetically in an arrangement described as the CE-type magnetic structure and found in many mixed-valent perovskite and Ruddlesden-Popper type oxide manganites. In these cases the magnetic cell is an a x 2b x c expansion of the low temperature Ibam structural cell. For x >= 0.2 in the formula Sr2MnO2Cu1.5(S1-xSex)(2) the magnetic structure has a (0 0 0) propagation vector and is similar to the A-type structure, also commonly adopted by some perovskite-related manganites, in which the Mn moments in the MnO2 sheets are coupled ferromagnetically and long-range antiferromagnetic order results from antiferromagnetic coupling between planes. In the region of the transition between the two different structural and magnetic long-range ordering schemes (0.1 < x < 0.2) the two magnetic structures coexist in the same sample. The evolution of the competition between magnetic ordering schemes and the length scale of the structural order with composition in Sr2MnO2Cu1.5(S1-xSex)(2) suggest that the changes in magnetic and structural order are related consequences of the introduction of chemical disorder. |

Abstract |
Factors affecting the structure and orientation of the crystallographic shear (CS) planes in anion-deficient perovskites are investigated using the (Pb1−zSrz)1−xFe1+xO3−y perovskites as a model system. The orientation of the CS planes in the system varies unevenly with z. A comparison of the structures with different CS planes revels that the orientation of the CS planes is governed mainly by the stereochemical activity of the lone-electron-pair cations inside the perovskite blocks. |

Abstract |
Cyrogenic etching of silicon is envisaged to enable better control over plasma processing in the microelectronics industry, albeit little is known about the fundamental differences compared to the room temperature process. We here present molecular dynamics simulations carried out to obtain sticking probabilities, thermal desorption rates, surface diffusion speeds, and sputter yields of F, F2, Si, SiF, SiF2, SiF3, SiF4, and the corresponding ions on Si(100) and on SiF13 surfaces, both at cryogenic and near room temperature. The different surface behavior during conventional etching and cryoetching is discussed. F2 is found to be relatively reactive compared to other species like SiF03. Thermal desorption occurs at a significantly lower rate under cryogenic conditions, which results in an accumulation of physisorbed species. Moreover, ion incorporation is often observed for ions with energies of 30400 eV, which results in a relatively low net sputter yield. The obtained results suggest that the actual etching of Si, under both cryogenic and near room temperature conditions, is based on the complete conversion of the Si surface to physisorbed SiF4, followed by subsequent sputtering of these molecules, instead of direct sputtering of the SiF03 surface. |

Abstract |
New layered structures corresponding to the general formula [PbBiO2]A(n+1)B(n)O(3n-1)Cl(2) Were prepared. Pb5BiFe3O10Cl2 (n = 3) and Pb5Bi2Fe4O13Cl2 (n = 4) are built as a stacking of truncated A(n+1)B(n)O(3n-1) perovskite blocks and alpha-PbO-type [A(2)O(2)](2+) (A = Pb, Bi) blocks combined with chlorine sheets. The alternation of these structural blocks can be represented as an intergrowth between the hematophanite and Sullen-type structural blocks. The crystal and-Magnetic structures of Pb5BiFe3O10Cl2 and Pb5Bi2Fe4O13Cl2 were investigated in the temperature range of 1.5-700 K using X-ray and neutron powder diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and Fe-57 Mossbauer spectroscopy. Both compounds crystallize in the I4/mmm space group with the unit cell parameters a approximate to a(p) approximate to 3.92 angstrom (a unit-cell parameter of the perovskite-structure), c approximate to 43.0 angstrom for the n = 3 member and c approximate to 53.5 angstrom for the n = 4 member. Despite the large separation between the slabs containing the Fe3+ ions (nearly 14 angstrom), long-range antiferromagnetic order sets in below similar to 600 K with the G-type arrangement of the Fe magnetic moments aligned along the c-axis. The possibility of mixing d(0) and d(n) cations at the B sublattice of these structures was also demonstrated by preparing the Ti-substituted n = 4 member Pb6BiFe3TiO13Cl2. |

Abstract |
The new families of superconducting compounds ''1201'' (Hg0.4Pr0.6Sr2CuO4+delta), ''1212'' (Hg0.4Pr0.6Sr2(Ca1-x-ySrxPry) Cu2O6+delta), and ''1222'' (Hg0.4Pr0.6Sr2(Pr1.7Sr0.3)(2)Cu2O8+delta) all show ordering between praseodymium and mercury in the (Hg,Pr)O-delta plane, reducing the symmetry from tetragonal to orthorhombic or even to monoclinic. In the 1201 compound the ordered superstructure can be described as O-I (a(I) approximate to 2a(p), b(I), approximate to a(p), c(I) approximate to c(1201)). In the 1212 compound two distinct superstructures are identified, O-I (a(I) approximate to 2a(p), b(II) approximate to a(p), c(I) approximate to c(1212)) and O-II (a(II) approximate to 2a(p), b(II) approximate to a(p), c(II) approximate to 2c(1212)). In some compounds, such as Hg0.4Pr0.6Sr2(Ca0.4Sr0.4Pr0.2) Cu2O6+delta, the Hg-Pr ordering is only present in microdomains, but due to an ordering between Sr layers and Ca layers, the c-axis doubles and one obtains a tetragonal superstructure T-III (a(III) approximate to a(p), c(III) approximate to 2c(1212)). In the 1222 compound, ordering in the (Pr,Hg)O-delta plane is very defective; a large number of translation defects actually reduce the symmetry to triclinic. (C) 1995 Academic Press, Inc. |

Abstract |
A thorough investigation was performed on the physical (mechanical, thermal, and hydrothermal stability) and chemical (ion exchange capacity and silanol number) characteristics of aluminosilicate FSMs, synthesized via a new successful short-time synthesis route using leached saponite and a low concentration of CTAB. Moreover, the influence of an additional Al incorporation, utilizing different aluminum sources, on the structure of the FSM derived from saponite is studied. A mesoporous aluminosilicate with a low Si/Al ratio of 12.8 is synthesized, and still has a very large surface area of 1130 m(2)/g and pore volume of 0.92 cm(3)/g. The aluminum-containing samples all have a high cation exchange capacity of around 1 mmol/9 while they still have a silanol number of about 0.9 OH/nm(2); both characteristics being interesting for high-yield postsynthesis modification reactions. Finally, a study is performed on the transformation of the aluminosilicates into their Bronsted acid form via the exchange with ammonium ions and a consecutive heat treatment. |

Abstract |
Superexchange interactions in alkali fullerides AC(60) are derived for C-60 molecular ions separated by interstitial alkali-metal ions. We use a multiconfiguration approach which comprises the lowest molecular orbital states of the C-60 molecule and the excited s and d states of the alkali-metal atom A. Interactions are described by the valence bond (Heitler-London) method for a complex (C-60 – A – C-60) – with two valence electrons. The electronic charge transfer between the alkali-metal atom and a neighboring C-60 molecule is not complete. The occupation probability of excited d and s states of the alkali atom is not negligible. In correspondence with the relative positions of the C-60 molecules and A atoms in the polymer crystal, we consider 180degrees and 90degrees (angle) superexchange pathways. For the former case the ground state is found to be a spin singlet separated from a triplet at similar to20 K. For T < 20 K there appear strong spin correlations for the 180degrees superexchange pathway. The results are related to spin lattice relaxation experiments on CsC60 in the polymerized and in the quenched cubic phase. (C) 2005 American Institute of Physics. |

Abstract |
For the composition (Sr0.61Pb0.18)(Fe0.75Mn0.25)O2.29, a new modulated crystallographic shear structure, related to perovskite, has been synthesized and structurally characterized by transmission electron microscopy. The structure can be described using a monoclinic supercell with cell parameters am = 27.595(2) Å, bm = 3.8786(2) Å, cm = 13.3453(9) Å, and βm = 100.126(5)°, refined from powder X-ray diffraction data. The incommensurate crystallographic shear phases require an alternative approach using the superspace formalism. This allows a unified description of the incommensurate phases from a monoclinically distorted perovskite unit cell and a modulation wave vector. The structure deduced from the high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and high-angle annular dark-field−scanning transmission electron microscopy images is that of a 1/2[110]p(203)p crystallographic shear structure. The structure follows the concept of a phasoid, with two coexisting variants with the same unit cell. The difference is situated at the translational interface, with the local formation of double (phase 2) or single (phase 1) tunnels, where the Pb cations are likely located. |

Abstract |
In order to increase the accuracy of the linearized augmented plane wave (LAPW) method, we present a new approach where the plane wave basis function is augmented by two different atomic radial components constructed at two different linearization energies corresponding to two different electron bands (or energy windows). We demonstrate that this case can be reduced to the standard treatment within the LAPW paradigm where the usual basis set is enriched by the basis functions of the tight binding type, which go to zero with zero derivative at the sphere boundary. We show that the task is closely related with the problem of extended core states which is currently solved by applying the LAPW method with local orbitals (LAPW+LO). In comparison with LAPW+LO, the number of supplemented basis functions in our approach is doubled, which opens up a new channel for the extension of the LAPW and LAPW+LO basis sets. The appearance of new supplemented basis functions absent in the LAPW+LO treatment is closely related with the existence of the ul-component in the canonical LAPW method. We discuss properties of additional tight binding basis functions and apply the extended basis set for computation of electron energy bands of lanthanum (face and body centered structures) and hexagonal close packed lattice of cadmium. We demonstrate that the new treatment gives lower total energies in comparison with both canonical LAPW and LAPW+LO, with the energy difference more pronounced for intermediate and poor LAPW basis sets. |

Abstract |
In the quest for sustainable and low-cost positive electrode materials for Li-ion batteries, we discovered, as reported herein, a new low temperature polymorph of KFeSO4F. Contrary to the high temperature phase crystallizing in a KTiOPO4-like structure, this new phase adopts a complex layer-like structure built on FeO4F2 octahedra and SO4 tetrahedra, with potassium cations located in between the layers, as solved using neutron and synchrotron diffraction experiments coupled with electron diffraction. The detailed analysis of the structure reveals an alternation of edge-and corner-shared FeO4F2 octahedra leading to a large monoclinic cell of 1771.774(7) angstrom(3). The potassium atoms are mobile within the structure as deduced by ionic conductivity measurements and confirmed by the bond valence energy landscape approach thus enabling a partial electrochemical removal of K+ and uptake of Li+ at an average potential of 3.7 V vs. Li+/Li-0. Finally, neutron diffraction experiments coupled with SQUID measurements reveal a long range antiferromagnetic ordering of the Fe2+ magnetic moments below 22 K with a possible magnetoelectric behavior. |

Abstract |
<script type='text/javascript'>document.write(unpmarked('A new synthetic approach based on chemical transport reactions has been introduced to obtain the Nowotny chimney ladder phase Fe2Ge3 in the form of single crystals and polycrystalline powders. The single crystals possess the stoichiometric composition and the commensurate chimney ladder structure of the Ru2Sn3 type in contrast to the polycrystalline samples that are characterized by a complex microstructure. In compliance with the 18-n electron counting rule formulated for T-E intermetallics, electronic structure calculations reveal a narrow-gap semiconducting behavior of Fe2Ge3 favorable for high thermoelectric performance. Measurements of transport and thermoelectric properties performed on the polycrystalline samples confirm the formation of a narrow band gap of similar to 30 meV and reveal high absolute values of the Seebeck coefficient at elevated temperatures. Low glass-like thermal conductivity is observed in a wide temperature range that might be caused by the underlying complex microstructure.')); |

Abstract |
Using first principles calculations, we study the structural and phononic properties of the recently synthesized Janus type single layers of molybdenum dichalcogenides. The Janus MoSSe single layer possesses 2H crystal structure with two different chalcogenide sides that lead to out-of-plane anisotropy. By virtue of the asymmetric structure of the ultra-thin Janus type crystal, we induced the out-of-plane anisotropy to show the distinctive vertical pressure effect on the vibrational properties of the Janus material. It is proposed that for the corresponding Raman active optical mode of the Janus structure, the phase modulation and the magnitude ratio of the strained atom and its first neighbor atom adjust the distinctive change in the eigen-frequencies and Raman activity. Moreover, a strong variation in the Raman activity of the Janus structure is obtained under bivertical and univertical strains. Not only eigen-frequency shifts but also Raman activities of the optical modes of the Janus structure exhibit distinguishable features. This study reveals that the vertical anisotropic feature of the Janus structure under Raman measurement allows us to distinguish which side of the Janus crystal interacts with the externals (substrate, functional adlayers, or dopants). Abstract |
The true function of neuroglobin (Ngb) and, particularly, human Ngb (NGB) has been under debate since its discovery 15 years ago. It has been expected to play a role in oxygen binding/supply, but a variety of other functions have been put forward, including NO dioxygenase activity. However, in vitro studies that could unravel these potential roles have been hampered by the lack of an Ngb-specific reductase. In this work, we used electrochemical measurements to investigate the role of an intermittent internal disulfide bridge in determining NO oxidation kinetics at physiological NO concentrations. The use of a polarized electrode to efficiently interconvert the ferric (Fe3+) and ferrous (Fe2+) forms of an immobilized NGB showed that the disulfide bridge both defines the kinetics of NO dioxygenase activity and regulates appearance of the free ferrous deoxy-NGB, which is the redox active form of the protein in contrast to oxy-NGB. Our studies further identified a role for the distal histidine, interacting with the hexacoordinated iron atom of the heme, in oxidation kinetics. These findings may be relevant in vivo, for example in blocking apoptosis by reduction of ferric cytochrome c, and gentle tuning of NO concentration in the tissues. |

Abstract |
A combination of large-scale and micro-scale elemental imaging, yielding elemental distribution maps obtained by, respectively non-invasive macroscopic X-ray fluorescence (MA-XRF) and by secondary electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM-EDX) and synchrotron radiation-based micro-XRF (SR m-XRF) imaging was employed to reorient and optimize the conservation strategy of van Eyck's renowned Ghent Altarpiece. By exploiting the penetrative properties of X-rays together with the elemental specificity offered by XRF, it was possible to visualize the original paint layers by van Eyck hidden below the overpainted surface and to simultaneously assess their condition. The distribution of the high-energy Pb-L and Hg-L emission lines revealed the exact location of hidden paint losses, while Fe-K maps demonstrated how and where these lacunae were filled-up using an iron-containing material. The chemical maps nourished the scholarly debate on the overpaint removal with objective, chemical arguments, leading to the decision to remove all skillfully applied overpaints, hitherto interpreted as work by van Eyck. MA-XRF was also employed for monitoring the removal of the overpaint during the treatment phase. To gather complementary information on the in-depth layer build-up, SEM-EDX and SR mu-XRF imaging was used on paint cross sections to record microscale elemental maps. |

Abstract |
In the past decade macroscopic X-ray fluorescence imaging (MA-XRF) has become established as a method for the noninvasive investigation of flat painted surfaces, yielding large scale elemental maps. MA-XRF is limited by a lack of specificity, only allowing for indirect pigment identification based on the simultaneous presence of chemical elements. The high specificity of X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) mapping is already being exploited at synchrotron facilities for investigations at the (sub)microscopic scale, but the technique has not yet been employed using lab sources. In this paper we present the development of a novel MA-XRPD/XRF instrument based on a laboratory X-ray source. Several combinations of X-ray sources and area detectors are evaluated in terms of their spatial and angular resolution and their sensitivity. The highly specific imaging capability of the combined MA-XRPD/XRF instrument is demonstrated on a 15th/16th century illuminated manuscript directly revealing the distribution of a large number of inorganic pigments, including the uncommon yellow pigment massicot (o-PbO). The case study illustrates the wealth of new mapping information that can be obtained in a noninvasive manner using the laboratory MA-XRPD/XRF instrument. |

Abstract |
Novel indium oxide (In2O3) nanobricks have been prepared by template-less and surfactant-free hydrothermal synthesis method and were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy and field emission scanning electronic microscopy (FESEM). The synthesized In2O3 nanobricks were successfully immobilized on the surface of glassy carbon electrode for the detection of Parabens (butylparaben). Owing to the unique structure and intriguing properties of these In2O3 nanobricks, the nanostructured thin-film electrode has shown an obvious electrocatalytic activity for the detection of butylparaben (BP). The detection limit (LOD) was estimated as 3 s/m and the sensitivity (LOQ) was calculated as 10 s/m and were found to be 0.08 μM and 0.26 μA μM−1 cm−2 respectively. This sensor showed high sensitivity compared with the reported electrochemical sensors for the detection of BP. The fabricated sensor was successfully applied for the detection of butyl paraben in real cosmetic samples with good recovery ranging from 96.0 to 100.3%. |

Abstract |
Starting from a model of rigid interacting C-60 polymer chains on an orthorhombic lattice, we study the mutual orientation of the chains and the stability of the crystalline structures Pmnn and I2/m. We take into account (i) van der Waals interactions and electric quadrupole interactions between C-60 monomers on different chains as well as (ii) interactions of the monomers with the surrounding alkali atoms. The direct interactions (i) always lead to an antiferrorotational structure Pmnn with alternate orientation of the C-60 chains in planes (001). The interactions (ii) with the alkalis consist of two parts: translation-rotation (TR) coupling where the orientations of the chains interact with displacements of the alkalis, and quadrupolar electronic polarizability (ep) coupling, where the electric quadrupoles on the C-60 monomers interact with induced quadrupoles due to excited electronic d-states of the alkalis. Both interactions (ii) lead to an effective orientation-orientation interaction between the C-60 chains and always favor the ferrorotational structure I2/m, where C-60 chains have a same orientation. The structures Pmnn for KC60 and I2/m for Rb- and CsC60 are the result of a competition between the direct interaction (i) and the alkali-mediated interactions (ii). In Rb- and CsC60 the latter are found to be dominant, the preponderant role being played by the quadrupolar electronic polarizability of the alkali ions. (C) 2002 American Institute of Physics. |

Abstract |
SrFe0.75Mo0.25O3-delta has been recently discovered as an extremely efficient electrode for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs). We have performed structural and magnetic studies to fully characterize this multifunctional material. We have observed by powder neutron diffraction (PND) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) that its crystal symmetry is better explained with a tetragonal symmetry (I4/mcm space group) than with the previously reported orthorhombic symmetry (Pnma space group). The temperature dependent magnetic properties indicate an exceptionally high magnetic ordering temperature (T-N similar to 750 K), well above room temperature. The ordered magnetic structure at low temperature was determined by PND to be an antiferromagnetic coupling of the Fe cations. Mossbauer spectroscopy corroborated the PND results. A detailed study, with X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), in agreement with the Mossbauer results, confirmed the formal oxidation states of the cations to be mixed valence Fe3+/4+ and Mo6+. |
