Abstract: The initial stage of nanoparticle formation and growth in radiofrequency acetylene (C2H2) plasmas is investigated by means of a self-consistent one-dimensional fluid model. A detailed chemical kinetic scheme, containing electron impact, ion-neutral, and neutral-neutral reactions, has been developed in order to predict the underlying dust growth mechanisms and the most important dust precursors. The model considers 41 different species (neutrals, radicals, ions, and electrons) describing hydrocarbons (CnHm) containing up to 12 carbon atoms. Possible routes for particle growth are discussed. Both positive and negative ion reaction pathways are considered, as consecutive anion- and cation-molecule reactions seem to lead to a fast build up of the carbon skeleton.

Abstract: Glass ceramic composites were prepared by bulk crystallization of NaNbO3 in sodium niobium borate glasses. A homogeneous bulk crystallization of the NaNbO3 phase takes place during heat treatments that produces visible-near infrared transparent materials with similar to 30 nm NaNbO3 nanocrystallites. Upon thermal poling, a strong Na+ depleted nonlinear optical thin layer is observed at the anode side that should induce a large internal static electric field. In addition, the chi((2)) response of the poled glass ceramic composites increases from 0.2 up to 1.9 pm/V with the rate of crystallization. Two mechanisms may be considered: a pure structural chi((2)) process connected with the occurrence of a spontaneous ferroelectric polarization or an increase of the chi((3)) response of the nanocrystallites that enhances the electric field induced second harmonic generation process. “Enhancement of the critical current in quasiperiodic pinning arrays : one-dimensional chains and Penrose lattices”. Misko VR, Savel'ev S, Nori F, Physica: C : superconductivity
T2 –, 4th International Conferene on Vortex Matter in Nanostructured, Superconductors (VORTEX IV), SEP 03-09, 2005, Iraklion, GREECE 437-38, 213 (2006). http://doi.org/10.1016/j.physc.2005.12.036
Abstract: Here we summarize results from our study of the critical depinning current J(c) versus the applied magnetic flux Phi, for: (i) quasiperiodic (QP) one-dimensional (1D) chains and (ii) 2D arrays of pinning centers placed on the nodes of a five-fold Penrose lattice. In 1D QP chains, the peaks in J(c)(Phi) are determined by a sequence of harmonics of the long and short segments of the chain. The critical current J(c)(Phi) has a remarkable self-similarity. In 2D QP pinning arrays, we predict analytically and numerically the main features of J(c)(Phi), and demonstrate that the Penrose lattice of pinning sites provides an enormous enhancement of J(c)(Phi), even compared to triangular and random pinning site arrays. This huge increase in J(c)(Phi) could be useful for applications. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

T2 –, 24th International Conference on Low Temperature Physics (LT24), AUG 10-17, 2005, Orlando, FL , 739 (2006)
Abstract: We describe an experimental distinction between giant vortex and multivortex states in mesoscopic superconducting disks by using two methods: the multiple-small-tunnel-junction method and the temperature dependence of vortex expulsion fields. The experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical simulations based on the non-linear Ginzburg-Landau theory.
