Abstract: We performed a molecular dynamics study of vortex-antivortex motion in a superconducting disk with a magnetic dot on top, in the Corbino disk geometry. In this system, vortices and antivortices are forced to move in opposite azimuthal directions by a radially applied current. The dot is magnetized out of plane in order to stabilize composite vortex-antivortex configurations, with vortices closer to the center of the disk and antivortices near to the disk edge. We observe that the interplay between the spatially inhomogeneous current distribution, the screening currents induced by the dipole, and the attractive vortex-antivortex (v-av) interaction result in different dynamical phases. At low current values, antivortices which are distributed at outer rings – remain bounded to vortices at inner rings and the whole configuration rotates rigidly. Above a threshold current, vortices and antivortices unbind and move at different angular velocities in a highly correlated way. Finally, at very strong drive, vortex-antivortex attraction is overhelmed by the external current Lorentz force, causing them to move in opposite directions. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. Abstract: We studied theoretically the effect of time symmetric and asymmetric electromagnetic (e.m.) radiation on the phase-slip process in superconducting wires in the regime where there is no stimulation of superconductivity. We found that for large amplitudes j(ac) of the symmetric ac signal the value of the lower critical current j(c1)(j(ac)) at which the voltage vanishes in the sample oscillates as a function of j(ac). The amplitude of these oscillations decays with increasing power of the ac signal, and we explain it either by the existence of a maximal current j(c3) beyond which no phase slips can be created or by a weak heat removal from the sample. Applying an asymmetric in time signal (with zero dc current) we show that it may lead to a finite voltage in the system (i.e., ratchet effect). At high enough frequencies the rectified voltage is directly proportional to the frequency of the applied e.m. radiation. These properties resemble in many aspects the behavior of a Josephson junction under e.m. radiation. The differences are mainly connected to the effect of the transport current on the magnitude of the order parameter.

Abstract: Structural aspects of ramp-type Josephson junctions based on REBa2Cu3O7-delta high-T-c superconductors, are investigated by cross-section transmission electron microscopy and results related to fabrication process or physical properties. The barrier layer material is PrBa2Cu3-xGaxO7-delta. The ramp-geometry depends on the etching conditions. High levels of Ga doping (x>0.7) influence the microstructure of the barrier layer thereby changing the junctions properties.

Abstract: We investigate the properties of carriers in graphene-based quantum wires created by potential barriers, by means of analytical and numerical calculations. We obtain expressions for the energy spectrum as a function of barrier height, well width and linear momentum along the wire. The results demonstrate a direction-dependent resonant transmission across the potential well.

Abstract: Within the framework of the nonlinear Ginzburg-Landau theory, we calculated the full phase diagram for a superconducting disk with radius R = 4 (T = 0) and we studied the behavior of the penetration and expulsion fields as a function of temperature for multivortex and giant vortex states.

Abstract: Lasers can be used for many applications including determination of size, in addition to the theory of diffraction and material dispersion phenomena. In this paper we calculated the corrections in angular intensity for the Gaussian and uniform particle distributions, the scattering intensity on cylindrical objects. We also evaluated the necessary mathematical summations. In addition, we analyse and Simulate the special positions of detectors using laser Doppler anemometric (LDA) methods, which can be used to determine the particle diameter. The dispersion measurements for actual fibres are given at the end. The geometric and material parameters of these fibres were taken before the evaluation of the angular scattering intensity.

Abstract: Addition of a labile sulphur donor to light sensitive silver halide microcrystals results in the formation of a distribution of silver sulphide clusters on the crystal surface. These silver sulphide clusters enhance the efficiency of image formation during the photographic process. Their activity towards the capturing of light photons, however, is very critical to their size (aggregation number) and concentration. By incorporating gold ions into silver sulphide clusters it was possible to monitor the size distribution by measuring the amount of gold reacted. From these experiments, no evidence was found for aggregation of the reacted sulphur entities on the surface. The uptake of gold ions at different sulphur concentrations could well be fitted with a simulated size distribution when a catalyzed deposition of sulphur was assumed, with a reactivity of the surface equal to 1.0 % for the microcrystals studied. From a simulation of the silver sulphide cluster size distribution a correlation could also be found between increasing aggregation numbers and the absorption at increasing wavelengths in diffuse reflectance spectroscopy.

Abstract: The recently discovered superconducting mercury-based cuprates HgBa2Can-1CunO2n+2+delta have proved difficult to synthesize as single phases and are sensitive to environment (CO2, moisture). The present paper gives an overview of new series mercury based superconductors, whose stabilisation is based on the fact that a foreign cation with a higher valency than Hg(II) must be introduced in the mercury layers, in order to fill up partially the oxygen vacancies of these layers. By this method, several new series of superconductors involving strontium instead of barium with critical temperatures ranging from 27 K to 95 K have been isolated : Hg0.5Bi0.5Sr2-xLaxCuO4+delta, Hg(0.5)Bi(0.5)Sr(2)Ca(1-x)R(x)Cu(2)O(6+delta) (R Y, Nd, Pr), Pb0.7Hg0.3Sr2-xLaxCuO4+delta, Pb(0.7)Hg(0.3)Sr(2)Ca(1-x)R(x)Cu(2)O(6+delta) (R = Y, Nd) Hg(1-x)Pr(x)Sr(2)A(1-x')Pr(x') Cu2O6+delta (A = Sr, Ca), Pb0.7Hg0.3Sr2Cu2CO3O7 and Hg1-xCrxSr2CuO4+delta. The behaviour of the praseodymium cuprates that exhibit a rather sharp transition and reach a Tc of 85 K is especially discussed. A method to synthesize new ''Ba-Hg'' superconducting cuprates with the 1212 structure at normal pressure with a Tc up to 110 K is also presented.
