“A microanalytical study of the gills of aluminium-exposed catfish”. Eeckhaoudt S, Landsberg J, Van Grieken R, Jacob W, Watt F, Witters H, Institute of physics conference series
T2 –, Proceedings of the 13th International Congress on X-Ray Optics and Microanalysis / Kenway, P.B. [edit.] , 251 (1993)
Abstract: Through a combined use of light- and electron microscopy with microanalytical techniques, the aluminium distribution in gills of aluminium-exposed catfish was investigated. This study demonstrates that also with the ''acid-resistant'' catfish, exposed during seven days to acidified water (pH=4.3) with an elevated aluminium concentration (1 mg Al/l), aluminium can be found at, and even in, the gills.

“A general Monte-Carlo simulation of energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometers : 1 : unpolarized radiation, homogenious samples”. Vincze L, Janssens K, Adams F, Spectrochimica acta: part B : atomic spectroscopy 48, 553 (1993). http://doi.org/10.1016/0584-8547(93)80060-8
Abstract: A general Monte Carlo program for the simulation of X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometers is presented. The global layout of the program is discussed and the way in which variance reduction techniques have been employed to improve the efficiency of the code is described. For the case of polychromatic excitation in a direct excitation energy-dispersive (ED) XRF instrument, experimentally collected ED-XRF spectra are compared with simulated spectral distributions. Applications of the software in the field of quantitative analysis and thickness estimation of samples of intermediate thickness illustrate the potential of the method.

“A 2a2a3c superstructure in hexagonal Ni1-xS : a study by means of electron-diffraction and HRTEM”. Lioutas CB, Manolikas C, Van Tendeloo G, van Landuyt J, Journal of crystal growth 126, 457 (1993). http://doi.org/10.1016/0022-0248(93)90051-W
Abstract: The high temperature phase of Ni1-xS has the NiAs-type structure. The coexistence of two superstructures, ''3a3a3c'' and ''2a2a3c'' with the basic phase is confirmed by means of electron diffraction. The 2a2a3c superstructure is studied by means of electron diffraction and high resolution electron microscopy. A structure model is proposed based on the periodic insertion of stacking faults in the NiAs-type basic structure and the ordering of vacancies in alternate metal-atom layers. Microtwinning in very narrow slabs is found to be a main feature of the 2a2a3c regions and two defect models are discussed.
