“Removal of natural organic matter from water by using ion-exchange resins”. Kabsch-Korbutowicz M, Krupinska B, Przemysl chemiczny
T2 –, Scientific and Technical Conference on Water and Wastewater Basis for, Environmental Protection (School of Quality Water 2008), MAY 28-30, 2008, Kolobrzeg, POLAND 87, 473 (2008)
Abstract: Four aq. solns. contg. natural peat components and the water from Odra river were treated with 3 anion-exchange resins (2.5 to 15 cm(3) of resin per 1 dm(3) of the sample) for 5-60 min to remove the org. matter. The process efficiency was detd. by UV absorbance (254 nm) and colour intensity measurements. The treatment resulted in discoloration of the solns. A resin with weak alky, was the most efficient. The degree of removal increased with increasing the resin dose and contact time. The presence of inorg. anions in the soins. contributed to a decrease of process effectivity.

“Supplementing the eye : the technical analysis of Frans Hals's paintings –, ii”. Tummers A, Wallert A, De Keyser N, The Burlington magazine 161, 996 (2019)
Abstract: The painting 'Two fisherboys' has long caused confusion among experts. A close comparison of the painting with a forgery by Han van Meegeren and Frans Hals's `Fisherboy' solves the conundrum and provides valuable insights into the merits and drawbacks of modern analytical techniques.

Abstract: A technical examination of the Last Judgment triptych by Hieronymus Bosch in the Paintings Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, has revealed a painted escutcheon with the coat of arms of the Burgundian court official Hippolyte de Berthoz underneath the current surface of the right outer wing. This allows him to be firmly identified as the painting's patron.

“Ultrastructural localization of aluminum in patients with dialysis-associated osteomalacia”. Verbueken AH, van de Vijver FL, Van Grieken RE, Paulus GJ, Visser WJ, d'Haese P, de Broe ME, Clinical chemistry : international journal of laboratory medicine and molecular diagnostics 30, 763 (1984)
Abstract: Using laser microprobe mass analysis, we studied the ultrastructural localization of aluminum in liver and bone tissue of chronic-hemodialysis patients with proven aluminum-induced osteomalacia. In the liver, aluminum was observed to be almost exclusively associated with iron. Detectable aluminum and large amounts of iron were found in lysosomes of both hepatocytes and Kupffer cells. In bone, aluminum was localized at the osteoid/calcified-bone interface and also was associated with iron in some cases.

“A perspective on the state-of-the-art functionalized 2D materials”. Duran TA, Yayak YO, Aydin H, Peeters FM, Yagmurcukardes M, Journal of applied physics 134, 120901 (2023). http://doi.org/10.1063/5.0158859
Abstract: Two-dimensional (2D) ultra-thin materials are more crucial than their bulk counterparts for the covalent functionalization of their surface owing to atomic thinness, large surface-to-volume ratio, and high reactivity of surface atoms having unoccupied orbitals. Since the surface of a 2D material is composed of atoms having unoccupied orbitals, covalent functionalization enables one to improve or precisely modify the properties of the ultra-thin materials. Chemical functionalization of 2D materials not only modifies their intrinsic properties but also makes them adapted for nanotechnology applications. Such engineered materials have been used in many different applications with their improved properties. In the present Perspective, we begin with a brief history of functionalization followed by the introduction of functionalized 2D materials. Our Perspective is composed of the following sections: the applications areas of 2D graphene and graphene oxide crystals, transition metal dichalcogenides, and in-plane anisotropic black phosphorus, all of which have been widely used in different nanotechnology applications. Finally, our Perspectives on the future directions of applications of functionalized 2D materials are given. The present Perspective sheds light on the current progress in nanotechnological applications of engineered 2D materials through surface functionalization.
