Abstract: The local and average crystal structures and magnetic properties of the oxygen-deficient perovskite Sr2Fe1.5Cr0.5O5+y were studied using powder X-ray and neutron diffraction, neutron-pair distribution function analysis, and electron energy-loss spectroscopy. This material crystallizes in the cubic Pm3̅m space group, with a = 3.94491(14) Å. The oxygen vacancies are distributed randomly throughout the perovskite-type structure, and the average coordination number of the Fe(Cr) sites is 5. Refinement of the neutron diffraction data indicates y 0.05. This is in discordance with an earlier report on a material with the same nominal composition and cell constant. Electron energy-loss Cr L2,3-edge spectroscopy shows that Cr3+ is present, which is also contrary to previous speculation. Neutron-pair distribution function studies show that a brownmillerite-like model involving ordered vacancies and alternating octahedral and tetrahedral coordination at the metal sites, gives a better description of the local structure out to 5 Å. A remarkable phenomenon determined by neutron diffraction in Sr2Fe1.5Cr0.5O5 is the occurrence of a long-range G-type antiferromagnetic ordering with Tc ≈ 565 K because cubic oxygen-deficient perovskites with B-site disorder usually do not undergo transitions to magnetically ordered states. The observation of long-range antiferromagnetic order and the Tc value are in accordance with previous Mössbauer spectroscopic studies.

Abstract: We have studied the dependence of the binding energy of a cubane dimer on the mutual orientation of and the distance between the composing monomers employing the second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation scheme (MP2) with the cc-pVDZ molecular basis set. We have found that the MP2 contribution from the molecular correlations is responsible for the bound state of the cubane dimer, whereas the Hartree-Fock contribution remains anti-bonding at all intermolecular distances. Starting with two molecules in the standard orientation and centers of mass at (0,0,0) and (0,0,d), respectively, the maximal binding energy is found at d = 5.125 Å and one of the monomers rotated by 45° about the z-axis. This configuration implies that the hydrogen atoms belonging to different monomers tend to repel each other. The results are in agreement with experimental data on the optimal packing of cubane molecules in the solid state.

Abstract: The properties of a capacitive HF discharge with growing nanoparticles are studied with the use of kinetic PIC-MCC simulation. At the initial stage of growth, the nanoparticles are shown to be localized at the interface between the near-electrode layer and quasi-neutral plasma, where the rate of ionization by electron impact has the maximum value. At the beginning of formation of particles, plasma parameters change rapidly and a transition between the capacitive and spatial discharge burning modes is observed for a certain critical size of the particles. If the growth of the dust particles continues, their distribution over the discharge becomes more uniform and the steady-state parameters of the gas-discharge plasma hardly change.

Abstract: Single-layer, large-scale two-dimensional material growth is still a challenge for their wide-range usage. Therefore, we carried out a comprehensive study of monolayer MoS2 growth by CVD investigating the influence of growth zone configuration and precursors ratio. We first compared the two commonly used approaches regarding the relative substrate and precursor positions, namely, horizontal and face-down configurations where facedown approach is found to be more favorable to obtain larger flakes under identical growth conditions. Secondly, we used different types of substrate holders to investigate the influence of the Mo and S vapor confinement on the resulting diffusion environment. We suggest that local changes of the S to Mo vapor ratio in the growth zone is a key factor for the change of shape, size and uniformity of the resulting MoS2 formations, which is also confirmed by performing depositions under different precursor ratios. Therefore, to obtain continuous monolayer films, the S to Mo vapor ratio is needed to be kept within a certain range throughout the substrate. As a conclusion, we obtained monolayer triangles with a side length of 90 mu m and circles with a diameter of 500 mu m and continuous films with an area of 85 0 mu m x 1 cm when the S-to-Mo vapor ratio is optimized. Abstract: We have evaluated the resistance of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) grown at a CMOS-compatible temperature using a realistic integration scheme. The structural analysis of the CNTs by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that the degree of graphitization decreased significantly when the growth temperature was decreased from 540 to 400 °C. The CNTs were integrated to form 150-nm-diameter vertical interconnects between a TiN layer and Cu metal trenches on 200 mm full wafers. Wafers with CNTs grown at low temperature were found to have a lower single-contact resistance than those produced at high temperatures. Thickness measurements showed that the low contact resistance is a result of small contact height. This height dependence is masking the impact of CNT graphitization quality on resistance. When benchmarking our results with data from the literature, a relationship between resistivity and growth temperature cannot be found for CNT-based vertical interconnects.

Abstract: The penetration of aerosol particles in a Whatman-41 cellulose filter has been studied via the depth profiles of different elements present in the aerosol. Depth profiles were obtained by analyzing both fine and coarse fractions from a dichotomous sampler by secondary ion mass spectrometry. The fine particles had an aerodynamic diameter dae of less than 2.5 μm, whereas the coarse fraction had 2.5 ≤ dae ≤ 15 μm. Elements such as Al, Si, Ca, Ti and Fe were associated with coarse airborne particles, while S, Cl, Zn, and Br were more abundant in the fine fraction. Results showed that particle size plays an important role in the distribution of particulate matter throughout the filter. SiTi-containing particles were mostly deposited near the surface of the filter, and their profiles can be estimated using a polynomial function, whereas the profile of AlCaFe-containing particles can be approached by an exponential decay function. Elements associated with fine fraction aerosols mainly originating from combustion processes, can penetrate up to about 25% of the total filter thickness, and their profiles are better represented by a diffusion function.

Abstract: A combination of new thermoresponsive statistical polyoxazolines, poly[(2-butyl-2-oxazoline)-stat-(2-isopropyl-2-oxazoline)] [pBuOx-co-piPrOx], with different hydrophobic moieties and F127 surfactant as a template system for the creation of thermosensitive nanoparticles for radionuclide delivery has recently been tested [Pánek, Filippov, Hrubý, Rabyk, Bogomolova, Kučka Stěpánek (2012). Macromol. Rapid Commun.33, 16831689]. It was shown that the presence of the thermosensitive F127 triblock copolymer in solution reduces nanoparticle size and polydispersity. This article focuses on a determination of the internal structure and solution properties of the nanoparticles in the temperature range from 288 to 312 K. Here, it is demonstrated that below the cloud point temperature (CPT) the polyoxazolines and F127 form complexes that co-exist in solution with single F127 molecules and large aggregates. When the temperature is raised above the CPT, nanoparticles composed of polyoxazolines and F127 are predominant in solution. These nanoparticles could be described by a spherical shell model. It was found that the molar weight and hydrophobicity of the polymer do not influence the size of the outer radius and only slightly change the inner radius of the nanoparticles. At the same time, molar weight and hydrophobicity did affect the process of nanoparticle formation. In conclusion, poly(2-oxazoline) molecules are fully incorporated inside of F127 micelles, and this result is very promising for the successful application of such systems in radionuclide delivery.
