Abstract: The variation of structures and superconducting properties by changing extra oxygen or fluorine atoms concentration in Hg-based Cu mixed oxides and YBa2Cu3O6+delta was studied. The data obtained by NPD study of Hg-1201 can be considered as an evidence of the conventional oxygen doping mechanism with 2 delta holes per (CuO2) layer. The extra oxygen atom was found to be located in the middle of the Hg mesh only. Different formal charges of oxygen and fluorine inserted into reduced 123 structure results in its distinct variations. The fluorine incorporation into strongly reduced YBa2Cu3O6+delta causes a significant structural rearrangement and the formation of a new compound with a composition close to YBa2Cu3O6F2 (tetragonal alpha = 3.87 Angstrom and c approximate to 13 Angstrom), which structure was deduced from the combined results of X-ray diffraction, electron diffraction and high resolution electron microscopy. Fluorination treatment by XeF2 of nonsuperconducting 123 samples causes an appearance of bulk superconductivity with T-c up to 94K.

“A new way of synthesis and characterization of superconducting oxyfluoride Sr2Cu(O,F)4+\delta”. Ardashnikova EI, Lubarsky SV, Denisenko DI, Shpanchenko RV, Antipov EV, Van Tendeloo G, Physica: C : superconductivity 253, 259 (1995)
Abstract: Superconducting Cu mixed oxyfluoride, Sr,Cu(O, F)(4+delta), was Obtained via fluorination of Sr2CuO3 by XeF2 in the 100-250 degrees C temperature range in a closed Ni container. The prepared samples exhibited a lower T-c in comparison with earlier reported values. Different samples in the Sr-Cu-O-F system were prepared by a solid-state reaction at 220-400 degrees C, but no formation of the oxyfluoride was detected even with an addition of xenon difluoride. These data allow one to draw conclusions on the metastability of the oxyfluoride under the conditions used, Electron microscopy and X-ray powder diffraction studies revealed large amounts of badly crystallized SrF2; this could be a reason for the small superconducting volume fraction as well as for the inhomogeneous distribution of the anions.

Abstract: Transitions between different multivortex states and transitions between multivortex states and giant vortex states are observed in mesoscopic superconducting disks using the multiple-small-tunnel-junction method. These results are compared to theoretical calculations within the framework of the nonlinear Ginzburg-Landau theory. We find a good qualitative agreement between the theoretical and experimental results, when we assume that a small defect is present near the center of the experimental sample. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. The initial growth was studied by high-resolution electron microscopy. Abstract: High-resolution electron microscopy is used to study the initial growth of different REBa2CU3O7-5 thin films. In DyBa2CU3O7-5 ultra-thin films, deposited on TiO2 terminated SrTiO3, two different types of interface arrangements occur: bulk-SrO-TiO2-BaO-CuO-BaO-CuO2-Dy-CuO2-BaO-bulk and bulk-SrO-TiO2-BaO-CuO2-Dy-CuO2-BaO-CuO-BaO-bulk. This variable growth sequence is the origin of the presence of antiphase boundaries. In Nd1+xBa2-xCu3O7-5 thin films, antiphase boundaries tend to annihilate by the insertion of extra Nd-layers. This annihilation is correlated with the flat morphology of the film and the absence of growth spirals at the surface of the Nd-rich films. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract: The influence of superficial defects on the vortex configurations of a thin superconducting disk is investigated within the time dependent Ginzburg-Landau formalism. The free energy, magnetization, vorticity, and the Cooper pair density are calculated for both metastable and stable vortex configurations and different number of defects on its surface in the presence of an external magnetic field applied perpendicular to the disk area. We show that the competition between the confinement geometry and the geometric position of the defects leads to non-conventional vortex configurations which are not compatible with the symmetry of the sample geometry. Abstract: Using the time-dependent GinzburgLandau formalism, we study the dynamic properties of a submicron superconducting loop in applied current and in presence of a perpendicular magnetic field. The resistive state of the sample is caused by the motion of kinematic vortexantivortex pairs. Vortices and antivortices move in opposite directions to each other, perpendicularly to the applied drive, and the periodic creation and annihilation of such pairs results in periodic oscillations of the voltage across the sample. The dynamics of these kinematic pairs is strongly influenced by the applied magnetic field, which for high fields leads to the flow of just vortices. Kinematic vortices can be temporarily pinned inside the loop with observable trace in the voltage vs. time characteristics.

Abstract: We have used scanning Hall probe and local Hall magnetometry measurements to map flux profiles in superconducting Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ disks whose diameters span the crossover between the bulk and mesoscopic vortex regimes. The behaviour of large disks (greater-or-equal, slanted20 μm diameter) is well described by analytic models that assume a continuous distribution of flux in the sample. Small disks (less-than-or-equals, slant10 μm diameter), on the other hand, exhibit clear signatures of the underlying discrete vortex structure as well as competition between triangular Abrikosov ordering and the formation of shell structures driven by interactions with circulating edge currents. At low fields we are able to directly observe the characteristic mesoscopic compression of vortex clusters which is linked to oscillations in the diameter of the vortex dome in increasing magnetic fields. At higher fields, where single vortex resolution is lost, we are still able to track configurational changes in the vortex patterns, since competing vortex orders impose unmistakable signatures on local magnetisation curves. Our observations are in excellent agreement with molecular-dynamics numerical simulations which lead us to a natural definition of the lengthscale for the crossover between discrete and continuum behaviour in our system.

Abstract: We study the coherent dynamics of pairing in a nanoscale superconductor, that is intrinsically multiband, after an external perturbation in the non-adiabatic regime. The description of the dynamics of the pairing order is within the density-matrix approach based on the BCS model and the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations. We find that for certain resonant wire widths the superconducting order parameter exhibits two oscillatory frequencies which are determined by the long-time asymptotic values of the subgaps. This in turn leads to a pronounced beating phenomenon. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract: We performed a molecular dynamics study of vortex-antivortex motion in a superconducting disk with a magnetic dot on top, in the Corbino disk geometry. In this system, vortices and antivortices are forced to move in opposite azimuthal directions by a radially applied current. The dot is magnetized out of plane in order to stabilize composite vortex-antivortex configurations, with vortices closer to the center of the disk and antivortices near to the disk edge. We observe that the interplay between the spatially inhomogeneous current distribution, the screening currents induced by the dipole, and the attractive vortex-antivortex (v-av) interaction result in different dynamical phases. At low current values, antivortices which are distributed at outer rings – remain bounded to vortices at inner rings and the whole configuration rotates rigidly. Above a threshold current, vortices and antivortices unbind and move at different angular velocities in a highly correlated way. Finally, at very strong drive, vortex-antivortex attraction is overhelmed by the external current Lorentz force, causing them to move in opposite directions. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. Abstract: A combination of CeO2 and PtO2 doping has been studied in melt-processed YBa2Cu3O7-x. This study was carried out using an optimized well established MTG process. The cerium-platinum doped samples exhibit a high fishtail effect with a J(c) of 4.3 x 10(4) A/cm(2) under an applied field of 1 T. Microstructural and nanostructural studies have been performed. The 211 and BaCeO3 inclusions are a few micrometers wide and the formation of a metastable nanocrystalline phase (Y4Ba4)Cu-8-x(Ce,Pt)(x)O-20+delta related to the perovskite is detected. The 123 grains show no specific extended defect generated by the doping process. The relationship between structure and properties are discussed.

Abstract: In a mesoscopic sample of a chiral p-wave superconductor, novel states comprising skyrmions and edge states have been stabilized in out-of-plane applied magnetic field. Using the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations we shed light on the dynamic response of such states to an external applied current. Three different regimes are obtained, namely, the superconducting (stationary), resistive (non-stationary) and normal regime, similarly to conventional s-wave superconductors. However, in the resistive regime and depending on the external current, we found that moving skyrmions and the edge state behave distinctly different from the conventional kinematic vortex, thereby providing new fingerprints for identification of p-wave superconductivity. Abstract: The microstructure of (Bi,Pb)2Sr2Ca2Cu3Ox (Bi-2223) tapes has been investigated by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution TEM. The emphasis has been placed on: (1) an examination of the grain morphology and size, (2) grain and colony boundary angles, which are formed during the tape processing, (3) a study of the grain boundaries on an atomic scale, including intergrowth investigations. Tapes with different process parameters have been compared with respect to the microstructure. A fully processed tape has on the average 50% thicker Bi-2223 grains than a tape after the first annealing. The angles of c-axis tilt grain boundaries are on average 14° and 26° for the fully processed tape and the tape after the first annealing, respectively. The intergrowth content (15%) and distribution are similar in these two tapes.
