Title Mn2FeWO6 : a new Ni3TeO6-type polar and magnetic oxide Type A1 Journal article

Abstract Mn22+Fe2+W6+O6, a new polar magnetic phase, adopts the corundum-derived Ni3TeO6-type structure with large spontaneous polarization (P-S) of 67.8 mu C cm-2, complex antiferromagnetic order below approximate to 75 K, and field-induced first-order transition to a ferrimagnetic phase below approximate to 30 K. First-principles calculations predict a ferrimagnetic (udu) ground state, optimal switching path along the c-axis, and transition to a lower energy udu-udd magnetic double cell.

Title Enhancement of second harmonic generation signal in thermally poled glass ceramic with NaNbO3 nanocrystals Type A1 Journal article

Abstract Glass ceramic composites were prepared by bulk crystallization of NaNbO3 in sodium niobium borate glasses. A homogeneous bulk crystallization of the NaNbO3 phase takes place during heat treatments that produces visible-near infrared transparent materials with similar to 30 nm NaNbO3 nanocrystallites. Upon thermal poling, a strong Na+ depleted nonlinear optical thin layer is observed at the anode side that should induce a large internal static electric field. In addition, the chi((2)) response of the poled glass ceramic composites increases from 0.2 up to 1.9 pm/V with the rate of crystallization. Two mechanisms may be considered: a pure structural chi((2)) process connected with the occurrence of a spontaneous ferroelectric polarization or an increase of the chi((3)) response of the nanocrystallites that enhances the electric field induced second harmonic generation process. Title Structural properties of Zn-substituted epitaxial YBa2Cu3O7-\delta thin films Type A1 Journal article

Abstract We optimized the deposition of YBa2(Cu1-xZnx)(3)O-7-delta thin-films using inverted cylindrical magnetron sputtering and report here a detailed structural study, especially in relation to crystal growth, associated surface morphology, Y2O3 precipitation and other secondary phases important for flux pinning. We find that the epitaxial quality of the Zn-substituted YBa2Cu3O7-delta films is decreased compared with high-quality pure YBa2Cu3O7-delta films prepared under identical conditions. The pure films have smoother surfaces, while those of Zn-substituted films contain pinholes and outgrowths. Secondary phases and a-axis grains were observed in the Zn-substituted films. Y2O3 precipitates with typical dimensions of 50-100 Angstrom have been found in both pure and Zn-substituted samples. However, their density of about 10(23) m(-3), observed in the pure films, is significantly reduced in the Zn-substituted films when increasing the Zn concentration up to 4%.

Abstract Analytical and high resolution electron microscopy have been used to study the effect of Zn- and Fe-doping on the micro structure of [001] YBa2Cu3O7-x thin films on [001] MgO substrates grown by magnetron sputtering. Special attention was paid to the presence of second phase inclusions and surface outgrowths such as CuO, Y2Ba1Cu1O5-x, Y2O3 in order to establish a relationship with the critical current density.
